Well-known eCommerce platforms, like eBay, Amazon, and Shopify, are integrating AI features to help users list products and complete other mundane tasks.
Crafting captivating product titles and descriptions can be a strenuous affair for eCommerce businesses, particularly those that handle hundreds or even thousands of new products weekly.
Joining eBay, which already offered AI product description writing tools, Amazon and Shopify recently released AI tools designed to empower sellers to craft more detailed product descriptions.
Chris Jones, CEO of AMNI, stated that such tools can “spit out the perfect product listing for you that is optimized to your customer base.”
Greg Mercer, founder of Jungle Scout, outlined AI’s value proposition here, stating that AI can condense “mundane listing tasks that might have taken some sellers three-to-five hours to complete” to mere moments.
Amazon’s tools can “infer a table is round if specifications list a diameter” or deduce “the collar style of a shirt from its image,” as highlighted in their launch announcement.
Beyond listings, AI can help users analyze data, forecast sales, and more. As Greg Mercer points out, “A lot of people don’t think of using AI to be their CFO and analyze data for them or to help do competitive research.”
While tools such as ChatGPT don’t have access to contemporary data (though OpenAI restored browser functionality recently), they’re still excellent at turning data from other platforms into meaningful insights.
Karim Lakhani, an AI expert from Harvard Business School, said on this topic that ChatGPT could act as a “thought partner, lowering the cost of cognition and new ideas.”
Shopify joins eBay and Amazon
Shopify’s latest “Shopify Magic” tool suite illustrates AI’s extending reach in the eCommerce sector.
From creating email campaigns using minimal input to generating custom responses for common customer queries, Shopify has found numerous methods of streamlining mundane and time-consuming tasks using AI.
Speaking of Shopify Magic, Miqdad Jaffer, Shopify’s Director of Product, said, “AI creates an environment where an entrepreneur’s expertise, brand, and product can shine.”
AI tools are finding their way into everyday workloads and demonstrating their ability to cut labor-intensive tasks, which is precisely what many people want from the technology.
