Hierdoor kon het model de chemische kenmerken leren die geassocieerd werden met groeiremming.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Het model getraind en getest<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nadat het model was getraind, gebruikten de onderzoekers het om een set van 6.680 verbindingen te analyseren die het model nog niet eerder had gezien. Deze verbindingen waren afkomstig van de Drug Repurposing Hub van het Broad Institute. Er werden een paar honderd verbindingen uitgekozen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">De onderzoekers kozen er 240 uit de shortlist om experimenteel te testen in het lab.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ze concentreerden zich op verbindingen met een andere structuur dan bestaande antibiotica, omdat de kans dan groter is dat ze antibioticaresistentie omzeilen.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Experimentele laboratoriumtests<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Laboratoriumtesten beperkten de lijst tot 9 antibiotica.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Een van deze verbindingen, die aanvankelijk werd onderzocht als een potentieel diabetesmedicijn, bleek extreem effectief te zijn in het doden van <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A. baumannii<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
