Als een F1-coureur in een bocht zo wijd gaat dat geen enkel deel van zijn wielen zich binnen de lijn bevindt, wordt hij gewaarschuwd en krijgt hij bij herhaalde overtredingen een tijdstraf.<\/p>\n<p>Het in de gaten houden van 20 auto's met snelheden van 354 km\/u is een lastige klus. Racestewards bekijken momenteel videobeelden tijdens de race om te zien welke coureurs van de baan raken.<\/p>\n<p>Tijdens de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk eerder dit jaar waren er ongeveer 1.200 incidenten die beoordeeld moesten worden. Sommige straffen werden pas 5 uur na afloop van de race uitgedeeld.<\/p>\n<h2>AI zou dit zeker kunnen<\/h2>\n<p>Tijdens de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi dit weekend test de FIA een AI Computer Vision-systeem dat vermoedelijke incidenten op de limiet van het circuit on the fly analyseert.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Bentley, hoofd van de FIA-strategie voor informatiesystemen voor \u00e9\u00e9nzitter, zei dat Computer Vision vormanalyse gebruikt van \"een lijn die de rand van het circuit is en de software berekent het aantal pixels voorbij die lijn\".<\/p>\n<p>In plaats van 8 menselijke stewards die gemiddeld zo'n 800 vermoedelijke incidenten met een limiet bekijken om de 50 daadwerkelijke overtredingen te vinden, zal AI nu het grootste deel van het werk doen.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Malyon, FIA's hoofd van operaties op afstand en plaatsvervangend racedirecteur, zei dat de Computer Vision-technologie effectief was gebruikt in toepassingen zoals het scannen van gegevens van kankerscreenings.<\/p>\n<p>Malyon vergeleek de tijdsbesparing die AI artsen biedt met hoe de FIA de technologie hoopt toe te passen.<\/p>\n<p>\"Ze willen de Computer Vision niet gebruiken om kanker te diagnosticeren, wat ze willen is het gebruiken om de 80% gevallen waar duidelijk geen kanker is weg te gooien om de goed getrainde mensen meer tijd te geven om naar de 20% te kijken,\" zei hij.<\/p>\n<p>Het AI Computer Vision-systeem zal de videobeelden op de hoeken analyseren om de incidenten terug te brengen tot ongeveer 50 fractionele oproepen waar een menselijke steward de uiteindelijke beslissingen kan nemen.<\/p>\n<h2>Oproepen voor breder gebruik van AI<\/h2>\n<p>AI zou uiteindelijk ook gebruikt kunnen worden om de wedstrijdleider te helpen bij andere aspecten van de race. Het interpreteren van de regels is waarschijnlijk een van de makkelijkste overwinningen.<\/p>\n<p>Max Verstappen kreeg alleen een berisping voor het blokkeren van een andere coureur tijdens de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Singapore in september. Hij had een straf van drie plaatsen moeten krijgen, maar de stewards maakten een fout.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis Hamilton maakte zijn mening over de zaak duidelijk toen hij zei: \"Hoeveel jaar hebben we.... Die regel is al eeuwen hetzelfde, weet je? Ik denk dat we moeten gaan kijken naar AI voor dit soort dingen, zodat we goede beslissingen krijgen.\"<\/p>\n<p>De slotmomenten van de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi van 2021, die in een controverse uitmondden, zijn een perfect voorbeeld van waar AI beter werk had kunnen leveren dan mensen.<\/p>\n<p>Onder extreme druk nam racedirecteur Michael Masi een aantal slechte beslissingen waardoor Lewis Hamilton het kampioenschap op dramatische wijze verloor aan Max Verstappen. De FIA gaf uiteindelijk toe dat dit te wijten was aan een menselijke fout.<\/p>\n<p>Stel je voor dat een hulpmiddel met GPT-4 Vision naar de race zou kijken en getraind zou worden in de raceregels.
