Er bestaat geen bloedtest die de diagnose schizofrenie kan stellen, dus psychiaters stellen hun diagnose meestal op basis van gesprekken met de pati\u00ebnt en zijn naasten.<\/p>\n<p>In hun experiment vroegen de UCL-onderzoekers 52 deelnemers om verbale vloeiendheidstaken uit te voeren. De helft van de deelnemers was eerder gediagnosticeerd met schizofrenie, de andere helft fungeerde als controlegroep.<\/p>\n<p>Ze kregen 5 minuten de tijd om zoveel mogelijk woorden te bedenken die met de letter \"p\" begonnen of tot de categorie \"dieren\" behoorden.<\/p>\n<p>De onderzoekers gebruikten vervolgens een AI-model om de antwoorden te analyseren om te zien hoe voorspelbaar de woorden waren die de deelnemers bedachten.<\/p>\n<p>Het model werd getraind op een grote hoeveelheid internettekst, zodat het een goed idee had van het soort taal dat je van de gemiddelde persoon kunt verwachten.<\/p>\n<p>De controlegroep deelnemers kwam met woorden die goed overeenkwamen met wat het model voorspelde. De deelnemers met schizofrenie vertoonden een verminderde voorspelbaarheid die afnam naarmate de ernst van hun symptomen toenam.<\/p>\n<p>Onze hersenen leren relaties tussen herinneringen en idee\u00ebn en slaan deze op in wat de onderzoekers 'cognitieve kaarten' noemen. Deze cognitieve kaarten helpen ons om samenhangende gedachten samen te stellen en in woorden uit te drukken.<\/p>\n<p>Onderzoekers denken dat schizofreniepati\u00ebnten daar moeite mee hebben omdat de gebieden in hun hersenen die verantwoordelijk zijn voor het maken en opslaan van cognitieve kaarten tekortschieten.
