Dit vereist meestal een nachtelijke ziekenhuisopname en het bevestigen van tot 20 sensoren op de pati\u00ebnt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De gegevens van deze sensoren worden vervolgens samengevoegd tot de apneu-hypopneu-index (AHI), die het aantal apneu's - momenten van ademstilstand - per uur meet om de ernst van de aandoening te beoordelen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PSG is niet alleen traag en omslachtig, het heeft ook zijn tekortkomingen. Zoals Hyung-Sin Kim van de Seoul National University in Zuid-Korea zei: \"Veel mensen zeggen dat ze niet goed kunnen slapen tijdens PSG vanwege het ongemak. Hun AI-tool, SlAction, kan vervolgens de diagnose stellen op basis van de video.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Om de AI te trainen, gebruikten de onderzoekers videobeelden van verschillende individuen, elk ongeveer 6 uur lang, verzameld in drie ziekenhuizen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dankzij deze video's, voorzien van professionele diagnoses, kon de AI de visuele tekenen van OSA leren herkennen, zoals vaak wakker worden of hijgen. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In evaluaties identificeerde het systeem OSA met een nauwkeurigheid van 88%.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hoe het onderzoek werkte<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Introductie van SlAction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Een groep onderzoekers ontwikkelde \"SlAction\", een innovatief systeem dat ontworpen is om obstructieve slaapapneu (OSA) bij mensen op te sporen. Het maakt gebruik van infraroodvideo's om slaappatronen op een niet-intrusieve manier te monitoren, wat een nieuw perspectief biedt op de diagnose van OSA.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Beperkingen van polysomnografie (PSG)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Op dit moment wordt OSA voornamelijk gediagnosticeerd met behulp van polysomnografie, een methode waarbij de pati\u00ebnt een nacht in een gespecialiseerd ziekenhuis verblijft en meerdere sensoren krijgt. Deze methode is gevoelig voor onnauwkeurigheden, voornamelijk door het \"eerste-nacht-effect\", waarbij de onbekende omgeving en het ongemak van de sensoren de slaappatronen kunnen be\u00efnvloeden.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Focus op kernonderzoek<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: De primaire onderzoeksvraag van het team was of ademhalingsgebeurtenissen die geassocieerd worden met OSA duidelijk terug te zien zijn in menselijke bewegingen tijdens de slaap. Om deze vraag te kunnen beantwoorden, analyseerden ze een omvangrijke slaapvideo dataset van meer dan 5.098 uur. Hun bevindingen bevestigden dat er inderdaad opmerkelijke correlaties waren tussen gebeurtenissen die duiden op OSA en kleine menselijke bewegingen tijdens de slaap.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Technische benadering<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: SlAction is ontworpen om een lage framerate (2,5 FPS) te gebruiken voor het vastleggen van video's, gebruikmakend van een grote venstergrootte voor 'sliding window'-analyse. Deze aanpak zorgt ervoor dat het systeem langzame, langdurige bewegingen vastlegt die gerelateerd zijn aan OSA.
