{"id":5907,"date":"2023-09-27T20:54:07","date_gmt":"2023-09-27T20:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/?p=5907"},"modified":"2023-09-27T21:23:04","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T21:23:04","slug":"science-journal-nature-surveys-1600-researchers-about-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/nl\/2023\/09\/science-journal-nature-surveys-1600-researchers-about-ai\/","title":{"rendered":"Wetenschappelijk tijdschrift Nature ondervraagt 1.600 onderzoekers over AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Een recent Nature-onderzoek onder meer dan 1.600 wereldwijde onderzoekers werpt licht op de toenemende rol van AI in wetenschap en onderzoek.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uit het onderzoek blijkt dat velen optimistisch zijn over de potenti\u00eble voordelen van AI in de wetenschap, maar dat er ook toenemende bezorgdheid is over hoe AI de wetenschapsindustrie als geheel verandert.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-023-02980-0\">onderzoek<\/a> Deelnemers waren onder andere:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personen die actief AI ontwikkelen of bestuderen (48%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zij die AI-tools gebruiken voor hun onderzoek maar ze niet ontwikkelen (30%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zij die geen AI gebruiken in hun wetenschappelijke bezigheden (22%)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De opkomst van AI in wetenschappelijk onderzoek<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uit het onderzoek bleek dat er in de afgelopen tien jaar een duidelijke toename was van onderzoekspapers waarin naar AI-termen werd verwezen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gegevensanalyse en statistische technieken met behulp van machine learning (ML) zijn de norm geworden.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daarnaast wordt generatieve AI, met name grote taalmodellen (LLM's), gebruikt om tekst, afbeeldingen en code te genereren voor wetenschappelijk onderzoek.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enkele belangrijke statistieken over de voordelen van AI in onderzoek:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">66% van de onderzoekers merkt op dat AI snellere gegevensverwerking mogelijk maakt<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">58% gelooft dat het voorheen onuitvoerbare berekeningen versnelt<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">55% vinden het een kosteneffectieve en tijdbesparende oplossing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Irene Kaplow, een computationeel bioloog aan Duke University, zegt: \"AI heeft me in staat gesteld om vooruitgang te boeken bij het beantwoorden van biologische vragen waar dat voorheen niet mogelijk was.\"<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Betreft<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Er is echter een keerzijde aan deze medaille. Onderzoekers spraken hun bezorgdheid uit over het volgende:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grotere afhankelijkheid van patroonherkenning zonder echt begrip (69%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Potentieel bestendigen van vooroordelen of discriminatie in de resultaten (58%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Het gemak waarmee frauduleuze activiteiten kunnen worden uitgevoerd (55%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De kans op onherhaalbare onderzoeksresultaten door onzorgvuldig AI-gebruik (53%)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jeffrey Chuang, een expert in de analyse van kankerbeelden bij het Jackson Laboratory, benadrukte: \"Het grootste probleem is dat AI onze bestaande normen voor bewijs en waarheid op de proef stelt.\"<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LLM's in de kijker<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LLM's, met name ChatGPT, werden vaak genoemd als AI-hulpmiddelen van onschatbare waarde in de wetenschap. Deze modellen stonden echter ook bovenaan de lijst van AI-hulpmiddelen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De belangrijkste zorgen waren:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proliferatie van desinformatie (68%).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gefaciliteerd plagiaat (68%).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Introductie van fouten in onderzoeksdocumenten (66%).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isabella Degen, onderzoeker op het gebied van AI in de geneeskunde aan de Universiteit van Bristol: \"Er is duidelijk sprake van misbruik van grote taalmodellen. We begrijpen niet goed waar de grens ligt tussen goed gebruik en misbruik.\"<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Verder werden het bezit van AI-tools en computerbronnen genoemd als barri\u00e8res voor modern onderzoek. GPU's zijn uitzonderlijk duur en het is moeilijk voor onderzoeksinstellingen om hun krachtige modellen intern te trainen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zoals Garrett Morris, een scheikundige aan de Universiteit van Oxford, beschreef: \"Slechts een zeer klein aantal entiteiten op de planeet heeft de capaciteiten om de zeer grote modellen te trainen. Die beperking beperkt het vermogen van de wetenschap om ontdekkingen te doen.\"<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over het algemeen geloven de meeste onderzoekers dat AI een onomkeerbare kracht is in de wetenschap.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zoals Yury Popov, een leverziektespecialist aan het Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, concludeerde: \"AI is transformatief.
