Succesvolle stadsplanning moet voldoen aan een complexe combinatie van esthetiek, bruikbaarheid en menselijke behoeften.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Uit een recent onderzoek is gebleken dat AI-tools voor stadsplanning beter en veel sneller zijn dan menselijke stadsplanners in een aantal van de meer alledaagse aspecten van stadsplanning.<\/p>\n

In 2020 introduceerde Carlos Moreno het idee van de 15-minuten stad<\/a>waar bewoners nooit meer dan 15 minuten lopen of fietsen verwijderd zijn van alle diensten die ze nodig hebben. De eenvoud van het idee logenstraft de complexe planning die nodig is om deze effici\u00ebntie te bereiken.<\/p>\n

Automatiseringswetenschapper Yu Zheng en zijn collega's van de Tsinghua Universiteit in Beijing wilden zien of machine learning een effectief hulpmiddel voor stedelijke planning kon zijn.<\/p>\n

Ze ontwikkelden een AI-systeem dat het landgebruik en de lay-out van wegen kon optimaliseren volgens de principes van de 15-minutenstad en tegelijkertijd kon voldoen aan het lokale planningsbeleid en de lokale behoeften.<\/p>\n

Ze begonnen klein door de AI een gebied te laten ontwerpen van ongeveer 3\u00d73 stadsblokken, of een paar vierkante kilometer.<\/p>\n

De resultaten van hun experimenten<\/a> toonde aan dat als het ging om toegang tot diensten, groene ruimtes en verkeersniveaus, de AI in staat was om menselijke ontwerpen met ongeveer 50% te overtreffen.<\/p>\n

En de AI was veel sneller in deze vervelende iteratieve optimalisaties. Het was in staat om taken in seconden te voltooien waar menselijke ontwerpers normaal gesproken zo'n 50 tot 100 minuten over doen.<\/p>\n

In zijn commentaar op het onderzoek zei Paolo Santi van het MIT dat stedelijke planning \"niet alleen een toewijzing van ruimte aan gebouwen, parken en functies is, maar het ontwerp van een plek waar stedelijke gemeenschappen zullen wonen, werken, met elkaar omgaan en, hopelijk, voor een zeer lange tijd zullen gedijen\".<\/p>\n

Zheng en zijn team zijn het daarmee eens en zien AI eerder als een assistent voor stedenbouwkundigen dan als een vervanging.<\/p>\n

Toen ze ontwerpen met alleen mensen vergeleken met ontwerpen met mensen en AI, ontdekten ze dat het gebruik van AI in samenwerking de toegang tot basisvoorzieningen en parken met respectievelijk 12% en 5% vergrootte.<\/p>\n

De onderzoekers ondervroegen 100 stedelijke ontwerpers en vroegen hen een aantal ontwerpen te beoordelen zonder te weten welke door AI of door mensen waren ontworpen. In sommige gevallen waren er geen duidelijke voorkeuren, maar sommige ruimtelijke AI-ontwerpen kregen aanzienlijk meer stemmen.<\/p>\n

Het AI-model had 2 dagen training nodig om het 3\u00d73 blokontwerp te beheren. Om de ruimte te vergroten naar een 4\u00d74 blokontwerp zijn twee keer zoveel planningsbeslissingen nodig. Het opschalen van een AI-tool als deze om daadwerkelijk een hele stad effectief te plannen is nog ver weg, maar het potentieel is duidelijk.<\/p>\n

Als stedenbouwkundigen AI gebruiken om de vervelende rekenkundige optimalisaties uit te voeren, krijgen ze meer tijd om aandacht te besteden aan esthetiek en maatschappelijke behoeften die moeilijker te kwantificeren zijn bij het trainen van een AI-model.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
