De cijfers zijn afkomstig van een enqu\u00eate onder 5.560 studenten door The Jed Foundation, een Amerikaanse liefdadigheidsinstelling voor de geestelijke gezondheid van jongeren. Uit de enqu\u00eate bleek ook dat bepaalde vormen van chatbotgebruik samenhangen met een slechtere geestelijke gezondheid.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">De cijfers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De <a href=\"https:\/\/jedfoundation.org\/understanding-relationships-between-ai-mental-health-students-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">verslag<\/a>, Het rapport, dat op 27 oktober is gepubliceerd, is gebaseerd op enqu\u00eates die tussen oktober 2025 en april 2026 zijn afgenomen op 21 Amerikaanse scholen die deelnemen aan de programma&#039;s van de liefdadigheidsinstelling. Het is ontwikkeld met input van het Digital Wellness Lab van het Boston Children&#039;s Hospital en gefinancierd door de Nielsen Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volgens de liefdadigheidsinstelling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/new-jed-research-shows-link-between-teens-ai-use-suicidal-thoughts-and-behaviors-302920783.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aankondiging<\/a>, Van de 58%-studenten gebruikte AI voor schoolwerk en 57% deed dat wanneer ze emotioneel worstelden. 28% vroeg AI om advies over relaties of problemen, en 12% gebruikte het voor vriendschap of gezelschap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hoe de link eruitziet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Studenten die AI gebruikten voor gezelschap vertoonden meer symptomen van angst en depressie, voelden zich eenzamer en hadden vaker su\u00efcidale gedachten of pogingen daartoe. Degenen die chatbots om relatieadvies vroegen, vertoonden een vergelijkbaar patroon, en zelfs het gebruik van AI voor huiswerk was gekoppeld aan een hogere mate van eenzaamheid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Middelbare scholieren, meisjes en zwarte, Latijns-Amerikaanse, inheemse Amerikaanse en multiraciale leerlingen wendden zich vaker tot AI wanneer ze zich down voelden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c&quot;Hoewel AI jongeren een directe en toegankelijke uitlaatklep kan bieden, kan het de ontwikkelingsgerichte, beschermende en noodzakelijke voordelen van menselijk contact niet vervangen&quot;, aldus Dr. Kayla Anderson, vicepresident onderzoek van de liefdadigheidsinstelling en auteur van het rapport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wat het niet laat zien<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De liefdadigheidsinstelling is duidelijk over de beperkingen. De gegevens zijn een momentopname, geen onderzoek dat leerlingen over een langere periode volgt, en de scholen vormen geen representatieve steekproef op nationaal niveau. Daarom kan de instelling niet vaststellen of chatbots ervoor zorgen dat tieners zich slechter voelen, of dat tieners die zich al slecht voelen, simpelweg eerder geneigd zijn om er een te gebruiken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Waarom het belangrijk is<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voor ouders is de conclusie simpel: een chatbot is tegenwoordig een van de eerste plekken waar veel tieners naartoe gaan als ze overstuur zijn. Wetgevers pakken dezelfde zorg aan. New York heeft onlangs een wet ondertekend. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/nl\/2026\/10\/new-york-law-makes-chatbots-check-ages-before-acting-like-a-friend\/\">Wet die chatbots verplicht om leeftijden te controleren<\/a> voordat hij zich als een vriend gedraagt, en Australi\u00eb is <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/nl\/2026\/10\/australia-moves-to-stop-ai-chatbots-posing-as-childrens-best-friends\/\">We nemen maatregelen om te voorkomen dat chatbots zich voordoen als de beste vrienden van kinderen.<\/a>. De liefdadigheidsinstelling wil dat AI-bedrijven noodgevallen signaleren en jongeren doorverwijzen naar echte hulp, in plaats van die hulp te vervangen.
