Het artikel zegt dat NeuralGCM \"het eerste op machine-learning gebaseerde model is dat nauwkeurige weersvoorspellingen voor een ensemble maakt, met betere CRPS dan de meest recente op fysica gebaseerde modellen.<\/p>\n<p>CRPS is een score die het voorspelde weer vergelijkt met het werkelijke weer.<\/p>\n<p>De onderzoekers beweren: \"NeuralGCM is concurrerend met machine-lerende modellen voor \u00e9\u00e9n- tot tiendaagse voorspellingen en met de ensemblevoorspelling van het European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts voor \u00e9\u00e9n- tot vijftiendaagse voorspellingen.\"<\/p>\n<p>Hoewel NeuralGCM vergelijkbare voorspellingsresultaten behaalt als GCM's, is het rekenkundig ordes van grootte minder intensief en een stuk minder complex.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-024-07744-y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Het papier<\/a> zegt niet hoe groot NeuralGCM is, maar biedt Google's ML-weervoorspellingsmodel <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/nl\/2023\/11\/googles-graphcast-model-predicts-weather-better-than-the-rest\/\">GraphCast<\/a> als vergelijking.<\/p>\n<p>GraphCast bestaat uit ongeveer 5.417 regels, terwijl het atmosferische model FV3 van de National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) ongeveer 376.578 regels code bevat.<\/p>\n<p>De onderzoekers zeggen dat NeuralGCM \"3 tot 5 orden van grootte besparingen in rekenkracht\" mogelijk maakt.<\/p>\n<p>Om dit in de juiste context te plaatsen, legt het artikel uit dat \"NeuralGCM-1.4\u00b0 70.000 simulatiedagen in 24 uur simuleert met behulp van een enkele tensorverwerkende eenheid versus 19 gesimuleerde dagen op 13.824 cores van de centrale verwerkingseenheid met X-SHiELD\", wat een weervoorspellingsmodel met hoge resolutie is.<\/p>\n<p>De onderzoekers zeggen dat hun resultaten aantonen dat hun model indrukwekkende mogelijkheden voor klimaatmodellering heeft.
