Onderzoekers van de Universiteit van Hong Kong gebruikten deep learning-technieken om tandkronen te ontwerpen. Dit zijn kapjes die bovenop een bestaande tand worden geplaatst om deze te herstellen en te beschermen.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Momenteel worden de meeste tandkronen gemaakt met behulp van computerondersteund ontwerp (CAD). De onderzoekers zeggen dat hun methoden esthetisch en functioneel superieure kronen genereerden in vergelijking met CAD-methoden.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bovendien bespaart het gebruik van AI voor het ontwerpen van kronen tijd en geld en verkleint het de kans op menselijke fouten.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hoe werkt het?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

De <\/span>onderzoek<\/span><\/a>gepubliceerd in Dental Materials, gebruikte een dataset van 600 digitale afgietsels van tweede premolaren en aangrenzende tanden. Deze werden doorgegeven aan een 3D neuraal netwerk, een 3D-DCGAN, dat verschillende structurele kenmerken leerde van de gezonde digitale afgietsels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nadat het model was getraind, gebruikten onderzoekers het om tandkronen te genereren en ontdekten dat het beter presteerde dan klassiek ontworpen kronen op verschillende variabelen.<\/span><\/p>\n

De onderzoekers zeggen: \"Dit onderzoek toonde aan dat 3D-DCGAN gebruikt kan worden om zeer nauwkeurig gepersonaliseerde tandkronen te ontwerpen die zowel de morfologie als de biomechanica van natuurlijke tanden kunnen nabootsen.\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Er werd niet alleen voorspeld dat de gegenereerde tanden functioneel superieur zouden zijn aan de CAD-ontworpen tanden, maar ze zouden waarschijnlijk ook langer meegaan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
