Mais nous savons que les petites constellations de satellites prolif\u00e8rent partout\".<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La vitesse des signaux produits par les tremblements de terre en mer est influenc\u00e9e par la densit\u00e9 des particules charg\u00e9es dans l'ionosph\u00e8re terrestre, qui se trouve \u00e0 environ 300 \u00e0 350 kilom\u00e8tres au-dessus de la surface. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lorsqu'un tsunami g\u00e9n\u00e8re des ondes de choc qui remontent dans l'atmosph\u00e8re, il modifie la densit\u00e9 de ces particules charg\u00e9es, ce qui entra\u00eene des modifications l\u00e9g\u00e8res mais d\u00e9tectables des signaux re\u00e7us par les satellites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/news\/scientists-look-to-skies-to-improve-tsunami-detection\">Recherche pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente<\/a> men\u00e9e par le Jet Propulsion Laboratory de la NASA et l'universit\u00e9 Sapienza de Rome en Italie a abouti \u00e0 une m\u00e9thode de calcul permettant d'\u00e9valuer les fluctuations de la densit\u00e9 des particules charg\u00e9es dues aux tsunamis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sur cette base, M. Constantinou et son \u00e9quipe ont converti les donn\u00e9es, \u00e0 l'origine en format unidimensionnel, en images bidimensionnelles. Ces images ont ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 analys\u00e9es par des mod\u00e8les d'intelligence artificielle \u00e0 la recherche de signes li\u00e9s aux tsunamis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L'\u00e9quipe a entra\u00een\u00e9 son syst\u00e8me d'IA \u00e0 l'aide de donn\u00e9es provenant de trois tsunamis sp\u00e9cifiques provoqu\u00e9s par des tremblements de terre : le tsunami chilien de 2010, le tsunami japonais de 2011 et le tsunami canadien de 2012.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ils ont test\u00e9 l'efficacit\u00e9 du mod\u00e8le sur un quatri\u00e8me tsunami provoqu\u00e9 par le tremblement de terre d'Illapel en 2015 au Chili. L'IA a \u00e9t\u00e9 examin\u00e9e de pr\u00e8s afin d'\u00e9valuer sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 diff\u00e9rencier les changements induits par les tsunamis du bruit de fond ionosph\u00e9rique standard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Afin de minimiser les faux positifs, les chercheurs ont filtr\u00e9 les perturbations caus\u00e9es par les stations terrestres en communication avec les satellites a\u00e9riens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selon Quentin Brissaud de NORSAR, une fondation norv\u00e9gienne de recherche sismique qui n'est pas li\u00e9e \u00e0 l'\u00e9tude, cette m\u00e9thodologie a donn\u00e9 \"d'assez bons r\u00e9sultats\" avec un taux de pr\u00e9cision de d\u00e9tection sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 90%. Cependant, Brissaud a soulign\u00e9 qu'il faudrait davantage de donn\u00e9es pour v\u00e9rifier la fiabilit\u00e9 de ce syst\u00e8me pour diff\u00e9rents types de tsunamis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quentin Brissaud note que \"la raret\u00e9 des tsunamis de grande ampleur rend difficile l'analyse et la pr\u00e9vision de tels \u00e9v\u00e9nements\".<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L'un des d\u00e9fis que pose le d\u00e9ploiement d'un syst\u00e8me mondial d'alerte aux tsunamis est la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d'un partage international des donn\u00e9es. Comme l'indique M. Constantinou, \"les donn\u00e9es sont souvent d\u00e9tenues par les gouvernements ou les partenaires commerciaux qui exploitent les satellites. Ces perturbations affectent le contenu total en \u00e9lectrons (TEC), qui peut \u00eatre d\u00e9tect\u00e9 par le syst\u00e8me mondial de navigation par satellite (GNSS).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cette approche exploite les donn\u00e9es de plusieurs syst\u00e8mes satellitaires tels que GPS, Galileo, GLONASS et BeiDou. Elle offre une couverture en temps r\u00e9el de la haute mer et constitue un compl\u00e9ment pr\u00e9cieux pour les zones g\u00e9ographiques qui ne sont pas accessibles aux syst\u00e8mes d'alerte traditionnels bas\u00e9s sur des bou\u00e9es.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le mod\u00e8le d'IA utilise des r\u00e9seaux neuronaux convolutifs (CNN) form\u00e9s sur les donn\u00e9es historiques des tsunamis de 2010 \u00e0 Maule, de 2011 \u00e0 Tohoku et de 2012 \u00e0 Haida-Gwaii.
