La num\u00e9risation d'un tel livre \u00e0 l'aide d'un scanner qui lit m\u00e9thodiquement chaque page centim\u00e8tre par centim\u00e8tre serait extr\u00eamement laborieuse, la majeure partie de l'effort \u00e9tant gaspill\u00e9e \u00e0 num\u00e9riser des espaces vides.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il en va de m\u00eame pour les physiciens exp\u00e9rimentaux, notamment en physique des particules. Dans ce domaine, les d\u00e9tecteurs enregistrent et analysent une quantit\u00e9 impressionnante de donn\u00e9es, bien qu'un pourcentage infime seulement soit utile.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Comme le d\u00e9crit Kazuhiro Terao, physicien au SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, \"dans une photographie, disons, d'un oiseau volant dans le ciel, chaque pixel peut \u00eatre significatif\", mais dans les images que les physiciens examinent souvent \u00e0 la loupe, seule une petite partie est vraiment importante.
