This definition has now been officially updated and is likely to be integrated into the EU\u2019s forthcoming AI Act, shaping the scope of the law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new definition, as stated by the OECD, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oecd.ai\/en\/ai-principles\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reads<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201cAn AI system is a machine-based system that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infers, from the input it receives, how to generate outputs such as predictions, content, recommendations, or decisions that [can] influence physical or virtual environments. Different AI systems vary in their levels of autonomy and adaptiveness after deployment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This definition was fine-tuned following discussions in the OECD\u2019s Committee on Digital Economy Policy and Working Party on Artificial Intelligence Governance to align with the EU AI Act.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Act itself is currently being finalized by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/2023\/06\/eu-ai-act-passes-crucial-vote-and-enters-its-final-stages\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EU legislative ascent process<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It will be the West\u2019s first comprehensive AI law.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While various <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/2023\/10\/dissecting-the-landmark-white-house-executive-order-on-ai\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">voluntary AI safety frameworks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and an <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/2023\/08\/biden-curbs-us-tech-investments-in-china-over-security-concerns\/\">executive order<\/a> from President Biden have been established, the EU Act will likely be the first enforceable law relevant to the technology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the rise of generative AI, there has been some debate over the definitions and terms used in the act since the initial act was drafted. The European Parliament had already agreed to adopt the OECD&#8217;s definition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This move is part of the broader EU-US Trade and Technology Council&#8217;s initiative to establish a common taxonomy for AI-related concepts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key changes in the new OECD definition include acknowledging AI systems that can develop new objectives beyond their initial human-defined goals, also called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/2023\/06\/navigating-the-labyrinth-of-ai-risks-an-analysis\/\">emergent goals<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new definition also expands the types of outputs AI can produce, such as text, videos, or images, aligning with the capabilities of multi-modal generative AI models.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that ChatGPT has fully integrated DALL-E 3, it\u2019s no longer \u2018just\u2019 a language model.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, the definition suggests how AI systems can change post-deployment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The OECD\u2019s new AI definition will be incorporated into the EU\u2019s AI Act as it moves into its final legislative phase.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Organisationen for \u00d8konomisk Samarbejde og Udvikling (OECD) har vedtaget en ny definition af AI, som forventes at indg\u00e5 i EU's AI Act.
