With websites increasingly shutting the gates on OpenAI\u2019s web crawler you\u2019ve got to wonder how much SearchGPT will be missing.<\/p>\n<p>Something else that\u2019s missing at OpenAI is profitability. This week it released SAM 2, an AI model that enables accurate video segmentation in seconds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/2024\/07\/metas-sam-2-model-enables-accurate-video-segmentation-in-seconds\/\">The SAM 2 demos are impressive<\/a> and could be a huge boost for autonomous vehicles and robotics.<\/p>\n<p>Meta has released SAM 2 as open source software and threw in the training dataset too.<\/p>\n<p>Training data is becoming an increasingly rare commodity. The largest models have burned through most of the online human-generated content and they\u2019re hungry for more.<\/p>\n<p>What would happen if we used AI to generate more content and use that to train models? A new study shows that <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/2024\/07\/ai-models-face-collapse-when-trained-on-ai-generated-data-study-finds\/\">things go bad pretty quickly when you do that.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>AI may need humans for a little while yet.<\/p>\n<h2>Strike!<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re a gamer, you may have to wait a while before those new releases hit the shelves.<\/p>\n<p>Video game artists from SAG-AFTRA have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/2024\/07\/sag-aftra-launches-strike-against-video-game-companies-over-ai-concerns\/\">launched a strike against video game companies<\/a> over their use of AI in making games.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the biggest video game production companies will see their human talent down tools.<\/p>\n<p>Will the absence of human talent dissuade these companies from using AI, or push them to accelerate its adoption?<\/p>\n<h2>The politics of AI<\/h2>\n<p>AI policy is fast becoming a political issue with legislators trying to play catchup with the tech.<\/p>\n<p>Political deepfakes are getting better and are generally viewed as a bad thing. But what if they\u2019re funny?<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk shared an <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/2024\/07\/ai-politics-elon-musk-shares-ai-video-of-kamala-harris\/\">AI-manipulated video of Kamala Harris<\/a> that tickled his funny bone but not everyone thinks this is a joke.<\/p>\n<p>There seems to be a big divide between state and federal AI policies in the US. The US Department of Commerce <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyai.com\/2024\/07\/us-dept-of-commerce-policy-endorses-open-ai-models\/\">released a policy report endorsing open AI models<\/a> instead of closed ones.<\/p>\n<p>The report presents some interesting arguments for open models in spite of the risks.
